Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in the world and the majority of us will have either direct or indirect experience of the disease in our lifetimes. This compelling fact has motivated IPIN Global staff to undertake two recent charity events to raise money and awareness for cancer charities.
The first event was in March 2014, a Walkathon for cancer charity Cudeca, a hospice providing invaluable services to those with terminal conditions, extending much-needed support and counselling to the family members after the loss of their loved one.

There was a huge turnout for the Cudeca Walkathon including IPIN Global staff and with everyone donning a blue t-shirt for the occasion, the hundreds of participants attracted a great deal of attention for the charity's cause.
The event raised €22,000 with sponsorship money still flooding in. Raffles, live music, Spanish dancing and plenty of paella on the day made the Walkathon an event to remember.
The second event took place on June 1st, when a group including IPIN Global staff set off to scale La Concha, the highest mountain in Marbella, to raise money and awareness for Cancer Research.
The valiant team before scaling La Concha
Despite storm warnings on the day, the group set off with steely determination to raise much-needed sponsorship funds for the charity Cancer Research in support of their work identifying causes and developing strategies for prevention, diagnosis, treatments and cure of cancer.
With beautiful sunshine belying the weather forecast, the group started their walk to the top of La Concha which is located just outside the natural park of the Sierra de las Nieves, falling under the protection of UNESCO's Biosphere Reserve due to its biological and natural interest.
A considerable challenge, La Concha boasts exposed ridges, a rocky summit and vertical walls despite being just 1200m above sea level and is a favourite walk for the more adventurous as it is off the beaten track.
Moments before a storm hit La Concha
As the group progressed towards the summit, the brilliant sunshine was quickly replaced with the forecasted storm leaving the group soaked through on the exposed and extremely cold mountain side with no shelter from the severe weather conditions.
Undeterred the team still attempted to complete their bid to reach the summit, but when the heavens opened and unleashed an onslaught of hailstones on the group, they were left with no option but to put safety first and turn back.
IPIN Global's Cicilia Thomas, one of the participants scaling La Concha said, "I was really looking forward to it as I have never done anything like this before. Even though there were some unexpected dangers on the way, I really enjoyed it and it certainly was an experience to remember! All for a good cause though and really proud of everyone for raising all that money!"
Despite not quite reaching La Concha's summit, the group are rightly proud to have made 13.1km from start to finish and with sponsorship money still flooding in, their courageous efforts will deliver vital funds to one of the world's leading cancer charities.
